Viking Paddle Trip (Abbey Loop)
This is our Annual canoe trip. We start at Laleham camping ground car park at about 9am, get ready and shuttle cars to the end point … Chertsey Meads car park below Chertsey and on the opposite side of the river.
We then paddle upriver to Penton Hook island where we have a picnic lunch (please feel free to join us). After lunch we paddle and drag the canoes down the Abbey river (depending on the water level), past the old Chertsey Abbey ditches and eventually re-join the Thames, just below Chertsey Lock. We then paddle down the Thames finishing off at the Chertsey Meads car park, hopefully around 4pm.
We ask that all the cubs stay and help load up the boats and that we have some help at the HQ unloading again.
The cubs will need to bring along a water bottle, some snacks as well as a packed lunch (I suggest they bring it even if you are coming as you may be delayed).
They should also be appropriately dressed (even if it is warm, they should have a windcheater or similar with them as well as a hat and some sunblock)
It is quite a paddle and they will be tired by the end of it, but they always enjoy it and by the end of the day, they are very comfortable in canoes …
